Why they suck
Roomba unit is extremely dumb. It constantly finds new ways to get trapped under something. Despite the fact that I have added Velcro "bumpers" on the device to help the unit identify where there is insufficient clearance for it to travel under, the device *insists* on trying to go under, eventually trapping itself and never finishing its job. How dumb is that? The unit also travels in some random, illogical pattern, never actually reaching all areas of any room... again never finishing its job. The "virtual wall" units also drain their respective batteries dry far too quickly, and the Roomba also does the dumbest thing: it pushes its own docking station around, leaving it unable to dock and recharge. Did I mention that this device is dumb?

My suggestions to Roomba
Read my complaints - you've got plenty to work with there.

My solutions / alternatives to fellow ranters
SAVE YOUR MONEY. Just opt for a vacuum cleaner, a swivel sweeper or a regular broom instead. You'll spend more time and effort, but you'll be far happier with the results.

Why they suck
At first Roomba seems like a revolutionary idea. Who doesn't want a robot who vacuums for you. To some taking home a roomba is like taking home a new-born baby for the first time. But much like children, being a proud new roomba owner is work. Roomba isn't quite as self sufficient as it's cut out to be. They are constantly needing attention. Every 5 minutes roomba needs its brushes cleaned, or its tray emptied, or has managed to get itself wrapped around a lamp cord. And as for "self-docking" roomba will run out of juice before it even reaches its charging station. Vausing the unwary user to have to track down roomba (who is probably stopped working under the bed or somewhere else incredibly inconvenient) and has to carry it to the docking station. Not to mention they break at least once a month. Its brushes are constantly getting torn off, or its "legs" break. And after a while they tend to just stop working. Roomba is a great idea, but in practice just aren't as great as they're cut out to be.

My suggestions to Roomba
Roomba technology needs to be improved to work as well as the commercials state. The brushes need to be built much more sturdily, and be made less easily tangled. Roomba also needs a much longer lasting battery to cause fewer break downs.

Just use regular vacuum. Roomba's a great idea, but its just not worth the effort. Your carpets will only get dirtier in the time you spend trying to care for it.
